We're Not In California Anymore

Okay, so, it's finally starting to hit me that I'm not in my nice, warm Southern California home anymore.  Yes, the trees and lakes and deer that are on base help remind me everyday, however, what has finally hit me is the fact that I have had to turn the heater on in our house.  We've been put on a Freeze Warning here at Barksdale AFB in Northwestern Louisiana.  Yesterday's high was I think 45 and I think that's about what today is supposed to be as well, and last night and this morning it was in the 20's.  In fact, it is currently 28 right now!  We are Bossier City (I have the other Cities/Country for family).
So, now I have to see what I need to do to start "winterizing" our home.  Keep in mind, I've grown up by the beach...70 is freezing for me!  I had to go to the BX to buy a nice warm sweatshirt to wear-it's that cold here (I still wore my flippy flops yesterday though).  Friends of ours who have been here for YEARS told us we may even see some snow this winter-it may not stay on the ground much, but still, SNOW!!!  Although, I have to admit, I did live in Pennsylvania for 3 years, however, I was young and still had my family taking care of me, so I didn't have to worry about what to do to make my house make it through the freezing cold temperatures, all I had to worry about was staying near the heater and making sure I had enough blankets wrapped around me :o)

Since I've been on my own, I've gotten a little stingy about utilities...if it's cold, put more clothes on-throw on a sweatshirt, put some socks on, that kind of stuff.  Why turn the heater on, when you just need a sweatshirt.  But, now, that's not gonna cut it here-I've tried that.  In fact, I have my newly bought warm comfy sweatshirt on, and my wifes Ugg slippers, and a blanket wrapped around me and my coffee, and I hate to say this, but I'm walking over and turning the heater on...it is 63 inside our house and now 32 outside...yea, the heater is totally coming on!

Well, looks like my netbook failed to shut off last night, so my battery is about to die, and I am on the boarder of becoming a human popsicle and need to start moving.  I will do my best to start posting on a regular basis instead of once every month :o)  Stay warm out there folks!
